What is Grasello?
Grasello is the highest form of Venetian Plaster, a finishing technique utilizing aged lime putty that has been mixed with fine marble dust. Unlike common paints, this material is applied by hand in ultra-thin layers. Its signature feature is a deep, reflective sheen that appears almost like polished glass or a wet mirror, bringing unmatched sophistication to interior walls and ceilings.

How the Mirror Effect Happens
People often ask how a seemingly rough material creates a glossy finish. It all comes down to compression.
Think of the lime putty as a very fine, soft sand. When we apply the material, we put on multiple micro-thin layers—sometimes up to five. The true magic occurs when the material is still slightly wet. We use a specialized, flexible steel trowel to press and burnish the surface. This act of compression pushes the marble particles together, compacting the lime. It squeezes out the air and forces the material to align on a microscopic level, resulting in a dense, glass-smooth finish that naturally reflects light. It is a simple principle: tightly packed material reflects light; loose material absorbs it.
